Ted Haggard: How Low Can You Go?

It seems I am always the last one to hear of trends in Evangelicalism. Just when I was thinking the new year is going to be tranquil and serene. Then prime time news spits out the most repulsive of headlines. It beggars belief that men who should be exegeting the word of God and teaching with zeal and fervour seem to be bent on spitting in the face of morality and bending every norm so as to improve the ratings of a television network (or is it spreading their ministry). Speaking of which, it seems Ted Haggard is making loads of friends and promising to please network affiliates who have never hesitated to sign up a wily ‘hireling shepherd’ willing to make fun twiddling his rod and staff for pagans to laugh at.

Having already embarked on the first steps of an ambitious resurrection campaign, Haggard is now primed to roll out a new reality TV series, titled (provocatively enough) Scandalous…  Haggard is hoping to project a comeback of sorts, rebounding from his very public fall from grace.

In the four years since Jones first spoke up, Haggard has claimed to have been “cured” of homosexual urges, and has even opened a new non-denominational church, the St. James Church in Colorado Springs, Colo.

In the upcoming series, Haggard says he will address head on his experience of living through the scandal, as well as the financial fallout he suffered as a result. ~Time

I liked the comment by Crosstalk Blog: “The fact that Ted Haggard continues to make money off his public shame and the disgrace heaped upon the name of Jesus Christ is indicative of the lawless environment in the evangelical church today….Ministers leading by example? It’s a concept that’s being left in the dust these days.”

May be people expected too much from Mr. Haggard.  Maybe some people just assumed too early that he was interested in a Heavenly kingdom rather than a Hollywood one.

Maybe we still have to pray a little longer. Remain a little  more steadfast in waiting on God. That He in his grace will bring about a genuine work of repentance to this man who seems to have lost his way a long time ago.

Sadly, Ted aint not stopping now. When he jumped out of the restoration programme by his former church and blurted out a new and some what perplexing term that he had “over-repented” and couldn’t wait to start his own new church they should have taken the cue. He was courteously telling everybody heaven can wait!

Ted, how low will you go…to become Scandalous?
